The Smurfs (French: Les Schtroumpfs) (Dutch: De Smurfen) is a Belgian comic and television franchise centered on a fictional colony of small blue creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford) in 1958, where they were known as Les Schtroumpfs.
When Brainy Smurf and the Smurf who would become Flying Smurf went to seek for nuts in the forest (asked by Papa Smurf), he found the advantages the birds have: reaching apples from the trees, avoid abysses, flying above the clouds during rainy days, and avoid dangers like Azrael. He tried several ways to fly in the air (stealing the other Smurfs' stuff in the process): sticking feathers on his arms, using a hot air balloon, even eating a yeast mixture. His only successful attempt was making himself so light that he floated in the air. But he was unable to come back down, so the other Smurfs had to lasso him down to the ground. Once secured they made him eat bricks to keep him from flying away.
