This luxury edition of two volumes in slipcase reproduces all 15 volumes of the Manga, three of which were published posthumously. The three-tone reproduction, faithful to the original, is commented from an anthropological, artistic and cultural point of view plate by plate by Matthi Forrer, a Hokusai specialist.
The slipcase offers a real showcase for the two works. It features a reproduction of the work "Running Tiger, Hashiru tora" by Hokusai and is offered with an orange canvas at the head and foot of the box. The title and the drawing on the back "Self-portrait at the age of eighty-three by Katsushika Hokusai" are reproduced in orange metallic gilding. This same gilded drawing is reproduced on the cover of each volume.
A valuable work, both in terms of content and form.
Matthi Forrer is curator of Japanese arts at the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden and an internationally recognized specialist in his field.
